Endoscopy

Endoscopy utilizes a fiberoptic scope with the ability to pass instruments through a channel in the scope.  It can be used to retrieve foreign bodies, explore the upper or lower gastrointestinal tract for abnormalities, obtain biopsies from abnormal areas, and to explore the upper respiratory tract.  It provides a noninvasive alternative to surgery in specific cases and exploration when other diagnostic imaging is not able to yield an answer.  It can also be used to introduce a feeding tube in a relatively non-invasive manner.
